Where to stay in Minneapolis depends on whether you want walkable downtown energy, the trendier North Loop, or something closer to the lakes. Downtown puts you near the skyway system, U.S. Bank Stadium, and Target Center, useful if you are visiting for a game or a winter trip where staying indoors matters. The North Loop, a former warehouse district, has become the city’s dining and boutique-hotel corridor, walkable to Target Field and full of exposed-brick properties in converted mill buildings.

Rates Swing With the Seasons Here Too

Minneapolis hotel rates follow the same inverted pattern as flights: summer (June through August) is peak season for lake access and the State Fair in late August, while winter months outside of major events often bring noticeably lower nightly rates, especially downtown where business travel also slows around the holidays.

Near the Lakes vs. Near the Airport

Staying near the Chain of Lakes (Uptown/Linden Hills area) puts you a short bike ride from Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet, better for a slower, outdoorsy trip than for hitting downtown museums and theaters. Properties near Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport work well for early flights or if you are combining your trip with a stop at Mall of America, which sits in neighboring Bloomington a few minutes from the terminal.
